Camilo Torres Tenorio

(Popayán, Nuevo Reino de Granada, 22 de noviembre de 1766 - Santafé de Bogotá, 5 de octubre de 1816), fue un abogado, intelectual, político, prócer y mártir que encabezó el movimiento de la primera independencia de la Nueva Granada, hoy Colombia. Por su formidable capacidad oratoria, pasó a la historia como El Verbo de la Revolución.

Camilo Torres Tenorio (Popayán, New Kingdom of Granada, on November 22, 1766 - Santafé of Bogota, on October 5, 1816), was an attorney, intellectually, politically, illustrious and martyr who headed the movement of the first independence of the New Granada, today Colombia. For his(her,your) formidable oratorical capacity, it(he,she) went on to the history as The Verb of the Revolution.

Se constituyó como líder de los federalistas, quienes se caracterizaban por reconocer inicialmente la regencia de Fernando VII; por su solidaridad de clase se consideraban españoles no peninsulares; y por crear la Federación de las Provincias Unidas, desconociendo con ello finalmente al monarca español. A la cabeza del grupo antagonista de los centralistas durante el periodo de la denominada Patria Boba, comenzó gobernando desde Santa Fe pero luego de que Antonio Nariño obtuviera apoyo del pueblo santafereño para ser su presidente, los federalistas se retiraron inicialmente a Villa de Leyva agosto de 1811 y luego a Tunja.

It was constituted as leader of the federalists, who were characterized for recognizing initially the regency of Fernando VII; by his(her,your) solidarity of class they were considered to be not peninsular Spanish; and for creating the Federation of the Close(United) Provinces, not knowing with it finally the Spanish monarch.
